Flag Ceremony
Treaty 6 and Metis Flag Assembly - June 13
Our Division has been working very hard to meet the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action by engaging in meaningful work towards reconciliation. This year, our Division has focused on building staff and student knowledge on understanding Treaty, both historically and currently. Part of this work is ensuring that Treaty and Metis flags are honored in our schools as a way to recognize Treaty. The flags also welcome Indigenous students and families and work to build positive relationships. Every school in the division will display the Treaty flag of their area and the Metis flag in their school. To learn more about CESD’s work on learning about Treaty and the flags, check out this link for information and a video.
We will welcome knowledge keeper Clare Butterfly to dance and speak, as well as engage students in land-based learning sessions with him throughout the day.
