What is the School Council?
The School Council is the fundraising body that supports the School Council direction and ensures that financial assistance is available for designated school activities.
What role does the School Council play?
School Council serves an advisory role to the school and the division. The Council represents the parent perspective by providing advice and consulting with the principal and board on matters relating to the School.
What programs/services has the School Council provided?
Hot lunch programs, Back-to-School supplies, school clothing, funding for field trips, grade 5/6 camp, bussing for swim and ski programs, bussing for We Day (Me-To-We group) and sporting events, artistic and educational performances (ie. Telus World of Science), technology funding (iPads, smartboards, program licensing fees), playground equipment.
How does the School Council raise funds?
Funds are raised by the School Council through bottle drives, hot lunch revenues, school clothing, SUTP, Read-A-Thon and casino. The casino is our largest
fundraiser, occurring once every 3 years.
How is School Council able to provide all this?
Volunteers! Without volunteers we cannot provide many of the programs or services that make Poplar Ridge School the best school in Central Alberta. If you have time to volunteer please contact an executive member for more information.
What is the Executive?
Four elected positions consisting of a chair, vice-chair, secretary, and treasurer make up the executive. The principal and one teacher are also part of the School Council.
How can I become a member of the executive?
All positions are open for nominations at the end of the school year and then the elections will take place at a School Council meeting.
Do I have to be on the executive to coordinate one of the existing fundraisers?
No, anyone can coordinate existing activities. If you have questions or would like to become more involved please feel free to contact one of the executive members.
